The BTS Journey of Crafting a YouTube Intro with After Effects & Logic Pro
Action leads to motivation
One night I was tired and lacking motivation to work on videos. While I was hanging out with Sean, he decided to just start mixing audio. I was drawn into the editing room and sat down at my desk to continue our conversation. Sitting with my mouse and keyboard in front of me, just naturally started editing.
Before I knew it, I had edited 4 of the 5 videos I had on my to-do list! Having creative people around you doesn’t mean you need to always be talking and critiquing each other’s work. Sometimes it helps to simply have someone to edit next to!
We started talking about making a new intro/outro and mentioned the animated series Regular Show. What made it interesting, was to attempt to recreate it from memory. Having not watched it for years, it would be a cool challenge and interesting to see how the results differ.
Making the intro
This was our plan: Sean would make the audio glitching with 2 clicks at the end. I would make an animated logo with our slogan snaping on in pieces to the clicks.
To glitch the logo, I used turbulent displace in After Effects. I played with the glitch amount until I found something that I liked for the starting frame. Then I animated it from there to 0 when I wanted the finished logo to be there. Finally, I opened the graph editor and changed the speed of the animation to start a bit more quickly and ease to a stop at its finished position.
Sean then had an idea of putting a bird sound effect at the end. And to go with it, we decided a clip of the trees outside our studio would be perfect.
After combining all of the pieces and making some final touches to the speed of the animations, we were left with the final product.
Thank You
I write this blog to track my creative work and hope to teach + inspire others in the process. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!
